Future Model of Electric Vehicle

ll-electric vehicles may seem like an impossible dream to most, with a price point that’s far out of reach. That may soon change, if car company ZAP gets its way. It has just announced a partnership with China Youngman Automotive Group to produce the Alias, a $30,000 electric vehicle that will be available in 2009.

ZAP believes that thanks to how fast automotive technology is advancing, it can produce such vehicle by the specified time frame. Its a difficult task as they have yet to produce a full prototype of the Alias. It does have a full specification showing what it hopes the final product will be. The three-wheeled Alias will be powered by two in-wheel 320-horsepower motors, which will be capable of taking the car from 0 to 60 in about 6 seconds. It should take go for 150 miles on one charge. A hybrid range extender is also in the works. Getting a full vehicle within two years seems difficult, however the car manufacturer is hopeful. It has just recently made an invitation to its suppliers with hopes of getting to the affordable price range that it is looking for. Having said that, if they can bring that car at that price, well, they could own the market.

2009 Rolls-Royce Phantom coupe

The Coupé is the most driver-orientated model in the Phantom line. A number of subtle but significant modifications including its elegant, sleek and rakish body have been made that change its character. It is noticeably more dynamic, whilst still offering incredible levels of comfort - a balance not easily achieved in this 5.6 metre-long car.

In the engine bay resides a 6.75-litre V12 engine developing 338 kW (460 hp) of power and 720 Nm (531lb-ft) of torque. Performance is a brisk 5.8 seconds for the 0 - 100 km/h sprint - an achievement in itself given the vehicle's kerb weight of over 2.5 tonnes.

On the inside, an exquisite interior, hand-built using the finest materials, supremely comfortable and equipped with a studio-quality sound system, makes the Phantom Coupé the perfect car for all-day driving. Clean and contemporary, the cabin uses traditional materials in a modern way to create a tactile and visual feast: driver and passengers touch only leather, wood or chrome.

World’s First Submersible Car

Thirty years after the movie thriller ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ hit the silver screen “sQuba” is the first car that can actually ‘fly’ under water.

“Dive it again, James!” If the situation gets too hot for the secret agent he’ll go underground - or under water. So demonstrated impressively by Roger Moore in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me” in 1977 when he dove below the waves in a sleek vehicle that moments before seemed to be an ordinary car. The only problem: The scene never really took place; it was an animation.

With the “sQuba,” the world’s first real submersible car, the movie fake now becomes reality for visitors of the Geneva Motor Show (March 6th - 16th, 2008). Rinspeed boss Frank M. Rinderknecht (52) is known for his extraordinary automotive creations. The acknowledged James Bond enthusiast and Swiss automobile visionary kept revisiting this scene in his mind over and over: “For three decades I have tried to imagine how it might be possible to build a car that can fly under water. Now we have made this dream come true.”

And it is this submerged stabile flight at a depth of 10 meters that sets the “sQuba” apart from military vehicles. While the latter can go under water, they are limited to driving slowly over the submerged ground. Rinderknecht: “It is undoubtedly not an easy task to make a car watertight and pressure resistant enough to be maneuverable under water. The real challenge however was to create a submersible car that moves like a fish in water.”

It also had to be a sports car that was converted into a diving dream in the facilities of Swiss engineering specialist Esoro. In a first step the combustion engine was removed and replaced by several electric motors. Three motors are located in the rear. One provides propulsion on land, the other two drive the screws for underwater motoring. They are supported by two powerful Seabob jet drives in the front, which ‘breathe’ through special rotating louvers from HS Genion (for opening and closing the water intake). The rotating outlet jets were designed to be extremely light yet twist resistant by using high-tech nano materials, so-called Carbon Nano Tubes.

It is a sure bet that the “sQuba” will steal the show from any ‘Baywatch’ beauty on the beach. And easily, too: You drive the car into the water and the car floats. That is, until you crack the door to let the water in. Immediately the “sQuba” starts on his way to the underwater world. The occupants’ breathing air comes from an integrated tank of compressed air that divers know from scuba diving. Rinderknecht: “For safety reasons we have built the vehicle as an open car so that the occupants can get out quickly in an emergency. With an enclosed cabin opening the door might be impossible.” But safety wasn’t the only reason for choosing an open-top design: With an enclosed volume of just two cubic meters of air the vehicle weight would have to increase by two tons (!) to counteract the unwanted buoyancy, giving the “sQuba” the land mobility of a turtle. Without occupants the “sQuba” surfaces automatically. It is even capable of autonomous driving on land thanks to a sophisticated laser sensor system from the Hamburg company Ibeo - without any help from the driver or passenger.

Power is supplied by rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries. Rinderknecht: “The ‘sQuba’ is a zero-emission car as documented by the rotating license plate in the rear. It produces no exhaust emissions. The Swiss are among the world’s pioneers in the area of hydropower. The ‘sQuba’s’ filling station is the water reservoir.” It is no surprise that the vehicle features powerful yet energy-saving LED lighting technology.

3-D foil elements with embossed fish and sharkskin patterns from Wetzel Processing Group and Hornschuch add visual pizzazz and streamline the exterior. Together with styling elements from Foliatec they create a harmonious velvety matt-white appearance.

For shore leave the “sQuba” relies on a stainless coil-over suspension from KW automotive and large Pirelli tires mounted on custom-made forged light-weight wheels from AEZ with 17- and 18-inch diameters. But the “sQuba” is really at home in the water. To make the occupants feel at home there as well the innovative salt-water resistant interior from Strähle + Hess features genuine mother-of-pearl trim and diamond-plated non-slip inlays from KGS Diamond, normally used in high-tech abrasives. After all, ‘diamonds are a girl’s best friends.’ The high-tech VDO instrument cluster and controls create a futuristic ambiance and allow controlling all vehicle functions even while submerged.

Future Model of Hatchback Cars

Toyota's iQ mini will make its debut in production form at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Scheduled for production in late 2008 and released as a 2009 model, the cute little car by the Japanese car maker was first shown in concept form at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show and is absolutely tiny at just under three metres in length. Sure, its longer than the even tinier Smart ForTwo, however, the iQ has the benefit of being able to seat three adults plus a child or cargo.

Technical specifications are sketchy for the time being although rumour has it that the iQ will be powered by an economical 1.0-litre engine with auto stop-start functionality.

Chevrolet Chevy Impala 1964
The Chevrolet Impala is a full-sized automobile built for the Chevrolet division by General Motors. Ed Cole, Chevrolet's chief engineer in the late 1950s, defined the Impala as a "prestige car within the reach of the average American citizen."

From 1958 until 1965, the Impala was Chevrolet's most expensive full-size car. In 1965, Chevrolet introduced the more-expensive Caprice.

The Impala in the later 1960s was typically positioned just below the top luxury trim Chevrolet Caprice, but above the most economical models such as Biscayne or Bel Air, and most readily distinguished by a pair of 3 rather than 2 taillights at its rear. It vied against other full size cars such as the Ford Galaxie 500 and the Plymouth Fury.

One of General Motors and America's most successful auto nameplates, the Impala was often the best-selling automobile in years when full-sized cars dominated sales. The 1965 sales of over one million units still stands as a record. The current version is the 8th best-selling vehicle and 5th top-selling car in the United States, and has the distinction of being the top-selling American-nameplate sedan, according to Reuters Top 20 Best-selling Vehicles Scorecard for calendar year 2007.

Latest Tesla Models of Electric Roadster
(Tesla Autos)

If you have not yet heard of the battery powered Tesla Roadster, where have you been hiding your sustainable self? We are almost rendered speechless by the awesomeness factor of this amazing electric vehicle, which goes from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds, drives up to 250 miles per charge (which costs under $5) and comes with an aesthetic that not only competes with its luxury brethren - but leaves the stodgy non-electric models in the dust.

Founder Martin Eberhard enjoys driving and the environment, but was dismayed by the environmentalist view that you need to ride your bike everywhere or alternatively own an electric vehicle that, at best, might look like a souped up golf cart. Enter Elon Musk, the ultimate angel investor, and Eberhard’s idea quickly turned into a reality. The first production of 100 Roadsters sold out quickly with nary an advertisement. The $92,000 price tag includes your name engraved inside the vehicle among other benefits such as never having to pump gas. If the price tag is out of your budget, don’t fret. Tesla plans to introduce more affordable models with their technology in the coming years. With battery technology improving, gas prices rising and war lingering the next eco-documentary might be Who Resurrected the Electric Car?

Overview of Hybrid Cars + New Models

Overview of Hybrid Cars + New Models

The Aptera (Greek for “wingless”) is an environmentally-friendly car that’s as clean and green as it is fantastically futuristic. The three-wheeled hybrid, which offers an all-electric or plug-in hybrid option, isn’t just a concept- you can reserve your own with just a $500 deposit. Seating 2.5 with plenty of room for luggage, the Aptera can get up to 230 miles per gallon at 55 miles per hour, and has an (electronically limited) top speed of 95 mph. Plus, it’s just so darn cool looking, we can’t resist the arthropod automobile aesthetic.

When H. Piper conceived the hybrid car decades ago, he thought of a vehicle running on the combined power of a gasoline engine and an electric motor. Today’s hybrid cars are made on the same principle of dual power sources. So what is the basic point of difference between the hybrid cars belonging to two ages?

The point of difference lies in their purposes.

Piper’s intention was to create a car that could achieve a speed of 0 to 25 miles per hour within only seconds. While it’s not a big deal today, in those days it was viewed as great achievement.

Today’s hybrid cars are manufactured with an eye for energy conservation; they are politically correct to own and stylish to drive.

So no wonder today, the hybrid car market has stretched far beyond one or two choices (read Toyota Prius) ; tax incentives, feature packed models and most importantly, unbelievable fuel efficiency have made the hybrid cars the choice of the new generation consumers, who happen to be more environment-conscious than their older generation counterparts.

Hollywood stars are famous for their love affair with hybrid cars. Even the Oscar award functions are used as the platform for promoting hybrid philosophy by encouraging the stars to appear in their hybrid vehicles than the traditional limousines.

So what makes the difference? Does it make any difference at all?

To begin with hybrid cars are more fuel efficient than the ordinary cars. Some of the Japanese hybrid models can give you a straight 68 miles per gallon saving on the motorway. By cutting on fuel consumption, they significantly contribute to a greener environment. On the personal front, hybrid cars are guaranteed to play easy on your pocket in the long run.

Hybrid cars—why are they greener?

Hybrid cars help to preserve the fast diminishing fossil fuel resources of the world. They help in keeping the pollution level low by producing less than half of the carbon dioxide and half of the carbon monoxide, less nitrogen oxide, less hydrocarbons, and less particulate matters produced by their non-hybrid counterpart. The fact that hybrids produce considerably less undesired by-products makes a hybrid the most environmentally friendly choice.

What is the main reason behind more and more people’s preferring a hybrid vehicle over a traditional car? It is not just the monetary consideration of energy efficiency ; people are today more concerned about the factors such as global warming and air pollution and that influences their choice in favor of a hybrid vehicle which is undoubtedly greener due to lower fuel consumption, use of battery and lot lower production of harmful byproducts.

Thus the rich Hollywood stars are not alone in their selection; the world is slowly but steadily moving toward the hybrid version of vehicles. From being fashionable & politically correct, the green hybrid cars are no doubt emerging as the choice of the future.

Hybrid Vehicles
Many people are unsure of what is meant by a hybrid vehicle, as they are not well publicised. However, it is relatively simple concept, where an ordinary internal combustion engine is combined with an alternative source of energy such as batteries or electricity. This alternative takes over from the engine during times when the engine is least efficient, such as long slow drives.

These hybrids are therefore twice as efficient and half as polluting. There are other benefits too – such as lower tax, exemption from congestion charges and cheaper insurance.

Hybrids are an ideal ‘in-between’ vehicle for the environmentally conscious person who is unable, or reluctant to opt for an electric vehicle.

They are just hybrid versions of cars that are already on the market, such as the Honda Civic, Prius, Accord and Insight. There are also SUV versions such as the Ford Escape, Toyota Highlander and Lexus RX400h.

You can also convert your own vehicle into a hybrid, as long as it is under 6 years old. This can be costly, so unless you are sure the vehicle is in super condition, and that the conversion will work, then it may be best to opt for purchasing a new hybrid.

There are various government schemes currently running, that are designed to assist you in converting your vehicle, or purchasing a new one.

Autogas+ is a Scottish initiative (which is about to close). It offers motorists and businesses £800 towards the cost of buying a new LPG/Petrol hybrid vehicle, or converting you own to a hybrid.

Powershift – This is a register used Nationally, where you can check which vehicles, makes, models and manufacturers are registered as being officially low-emission. Vehicles on this register get a 100% discount from the London Congestion charges. This is very good news, as vehicles travelling into London are charged around £8 per day!

It's wasn't rocket science. The basic idea was if you showed a beautiful girl in the passenger seat, standing next to, draped over or lying across the back seat of a car (anything but actually driving the thing) that they'd sell like hot cakes. So wrong. Pretty much every car in the 60s and 70s was advertised this way. Even if it was a massive leap to think that owning the pictured vehicle would automatically mean that you would have sex in the back seat with picture girl, it didn't seem to deter anyone nor did the political incorrectness of reducing women to automotive garnish... So wrong... Anyway.

New sedan model: Bentley Continental GT Speed

New sedan model: Bentley Continental GT Speed

The Continental GT Speed is the most powerful production Bentley ever and the first to top 200mph (322km/h). A potent addition to the company’s highly successful Continental series, the GT Speed extends the appeal of the Continental GT coupe to driving enthusiasts who place a high value on outright performance and agile handling. The exterior style of the new Continental GT and GT Speed models is defined by a wider, lower air intake and more upright radiator grille that also provide increased airflow to the more powerful GT Speed. Its 600bhp (610PS) W12 engine develops 15 percent more torque and nine percent more power than the standard Continental GT, while engine efficiency is optimised by the use of lower friction, lighter-weight components and a new engine management system. The resultant performance is exceptional, with a top speed of 202mph (326km/h), a zero to 60mph sprint time of just 4.3 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.5s) and effortless overtaking capability.

Complementing the Continental GT Speed’s high performance is its unique chassis tune that delivers tauter handling and improved agility, with new, wider 9.5J 20-inch wheels and bespoke performance tyres as standard fitment. Fade-resistant carbon ceramic brakes are available as an option. Subtle design touches, including a dark-tinted front grille and larger sports tailpipes, reinforce the sporting character of the Continental GT Speed.Inspiration for the GT Speed came from the legendary ‘Speed’ models that first appeared in 1923. The standard Bentley 3-litre had already established Bentley’s engineering superiority in terms of roadholding, handling and braking, but W.O. Bentley, the company’s founder, recognised the market potential for a more potent version aimed at the enthusiast driver who demanded superior performance. His response, the 3-litre ‘Speed Model’, complete with twin SU carburettors and a higher compression ratio engine, became one of the most coveted of all Bentleys.

Both the GT Speed and the 552bhp (560PS) Continental GT benefit from internal efficiency improvements to deliver reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The Continental GT remains outstandingly quick – its top speed is unchanged at 198mph (318km/h), with a 0-60mph sprint time of 4.6 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.8s).The all-wheel drive Continental GT changed the face of the luxury coupe market and attracted a wider audience to the Bentley marque. It also represented the first step in Bentley's renaissance, positioning the company at the pinnacle of both technology and consumer aspiration. Since its launch, demand for a sportier version of the Continental GT was met by the successful introduction of the 2005 GT Mulliner Driving Specification and the limited edition GT Diamond Series in 2006, to celebrate 60 years of Bentley at Crewe. Now, with the launch of the Continental GT Speed, customers will enjoy even greater choice. Bentley Chairman and Chief Executive Dr Franz Josef-Paefgen welcomes the expansion of the Continental GT model offering:“The Continental GT is a highly successful, modern-day Bentley icon. The new GT Speed, with its harder-edged character and sportier driving experience, builds on this success.”

Do you like this model of sports car produced by Chrysler? Please read this paragraph before answer the question! Chrysler has been through a lot recently, including an ad campaign that touted the company’s German engineering prowess, three CEOs, and two ownership groups. Now that the company is private, Chrysler would like to reinvent itself as an American automaker. While the Pentistar has canceled the hideous and un-American looking Imperial, the Auburn Hills, MI-based company does have an all-American concept that would help improve the company’s image. The Dodge Demon combines aggressive, Viper-like styling and MX-5 proportions with the idea of charging a paltry $15,000 for the right of ownership.
